“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth forever,” Psalms 111:10 (KJV).
Have you ever been afraid? I think everyone has had to deal with fear at one time or another. At least, in the sense of the fear of having forgotten something important, or the fear of looking stupid, or the more serious fear of dying. Yet, according to the verse above, there can be wisdom found in fear, and joy, and cause for praise to our God.
“In the fear of the Lord is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge,” Proverbs 14: 26 (KJV).
I have found in the Lord there is a place of peace and refuge. My confidence needs to come not from me and what I can do but from the Lord and what He can do through me. Even David, one of the great kings of Israel, did not have confidence in himself, but his hope came from the Lord.
Another great thing about the verse above is that our hope in the Lord is not just for ourselves, but we can also trust the Lord to care for our children. We can’t be with them every minute of every day, but the Lord can. We can trust Him to do what we can’t. We can ask Him for wisdom in dealing with whatever situation we may find ourselves in and He will actually HELP us. He loves us and wants us to let Him care for us.
That’s what it really all comes down to. Are you willing to trust the Lord and allow Him to take care of you? Will you let go of your fears of whatever and instead fear the Lord, trusting in Him only to take care of you and yours?
If you will take this step of faith, I promise that God is faithful. His Word, the Bible says so. Things may look dark, but He is the Light. Things may look grim, but He is the Way, and the Truth, and the Life. When you are feeling lost and alone, there is a hope that is real. Turn to Jesus and see that He is REAL and that He is GOOD. “Cast all your cares upon Him for He cares for you.” I Peter 5:7
These words aren’t just from a dusty, outdated book that has no meaning for today. The words of Scripture are real and alive and relevant for your life and mine. If we take the words of God and apply them to our lives, if we respond to the Lord’s call on our life and begin a relationship with Him, our lives will be changed. We will begin to start LIVING.
In a world full of fakes, get to know the REAL THING–Jesus.
In a world filled with fear, check out the only One who can overcome all that–Jesus.
In a world that is messed up and headed towards destruction, find real LIFE–Jesus.
He’s real and He’ll never leave you. Fear can paralyze or propel. When you choose to fear the Lord, you are propelled forward into a life worth living. When you live your life in relationship with Him, you are changed, changed into something wonderful.
Believe it or not, you can choose what to be afraid of. Choose wisely.
